Whodathunkit? 100 Numana Packaging Events in two short years!
Saturday, Dec. 17, marked our 100th Numana event thanks to the wonderful people at Heartland Community Church in Olathe! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150421797801286&set=a.241901656285.149193.167850816285&type=1
We were first approached by Heartland about doing a 100,000 meal event on January 1st, but they felt like that was too close a time frame to raise the money. An anonymous donor in the church told the Pastor, Dan Deeble, they would fund the event, but would really like it to happen on Dec. 17.
We met in the first part of December with Ryan Fagan and Brian Wright -two great guys that organize volunteers in the church- who naturally had concerns about rallying the necessary volunteers in two weeks. They only had one Sunday to make an appeal for volunteers and knew that many wouldn’t even know what a Numana packaging event was. They hoped to get 300-400 volunteers but, judging from past experience, knew that that would be very tough.
On the Sunday they announced it, they had to stop people from signing up after the number hit 1,100. They didn’t have any more slots available!
Here are some of the quotes I lifted from their Facebook Page (which I would encourage you to “Like”).
- What a wonderful way to spend part of our day! We all had a blast!! Thanks to everyone that made this possible!
- My daughter, Destiny, said that she had a blast and couldn’t wait to do it again so she could “rock” it!!!!!
- What a great experience & was able to share it with my family
As I walked around the event, I was reminded of a quote from one of our first events from a lady who told me, “I’ve never had so much fun doing so much good!”
It really does feel good to help save the starving.
