The Importance of Numana’s Nutritious Food

The photo displayed shows the difference between the brain stems of 3 year-old children who have been fed nutritious meals and those who have not. And that damage is irrevocable. Josette Sheeran, CEO of World Food Progamme has a very inspiring and challenging TED video about this. Josette Sheeran: Ending Hunger Now
“Food without nutrition is immoral,” said Dr. Rajiv Shah, Director of USAID last summer at the International Food Aid and Development Conference in Kansas City. IFADC. The days of giving starving people, or anyone for that matter, food that is filling with empty calories, yet deprived of nutrients is over.
In fact, giving non-nutritious food is not only immoral, it truly stunts the growth of a person both physically and mentally. Those brain stems that are damaged due to lack of nutrition never recover. That child will never have the mental capacities necessary for maximizing education. Their future has been destroyed because of lack of nutrition.
Because Numana food is so nutritious, it has been dubbed “The Miracle Food” in the nation of Colombia. We have sent nearly a million meals to Colombia to help ease the suffering of those who lost their homes in torrential rains and mudslides. Defensa Civil, our partner on the ground, is working with local sociologists and nutritionists measuring the impact of our food on the recipients. The days of sending in large bags of beans and rice are over. There is a movement within the hunger space for all who provide relief and development food that all food must be nutritious.
So when you support us by making a contribution or going to an event and helping package, know that you are providing critical nutrients that are often not even available to those who receive our food.
You’re not only giving a child the hope of life sustenance, you’re giving them the opportunity for full mental capacity as an adult. You, like us, want to see those images of the brain stems as equal. It is our privilege, passion, and purpose to overcome the disparity.
